My favorite Mindful Eating books: Review

So during my traditional education as a Registered Dietitian, I never received much training in Mindful Eating. The only closest course I took was Motivational Interview and Nutrition counseling class. I've got most of the information on Mindful Eating by reading books and attending seminars. I am a professional member of Center for Mindful Eating. which had provided me with some great resources!

But today, I want to introduce to you some of my favorite Mindful Eating books:

This book had changed my life! Dr. Wansink is a food & nutrition consumer economics professor at Cornell University. He has conducted many unique consumer behavior studies on food. My all time favorite is the "bottomless soup bowl". Where study participants were told to drink the soup until they're full. The catch of this study is that there's a feeding tube on the bottom of the soup bowl which keep feeding soup. This study showed that how people use external cues -eating until the plate is clean, to measure satiety not internal cues. So this is why we tend to over eat at restaurants, given a large portion, we will eat more and more until our plates are clean!

For Emotional Eaters:

Dr. Albers is a clinical psychologist specializing in emotional eating. Her book really explains how our emotions influence our eating choices. Especially our negative emotions are associated with poor food choices. If you want to know the psychology behind eating, this book will answer your questions!

I am a big fan of Dr. Chopra, his spiritual approach resonates with what I believe very much. He values mind-body connection and treat the body as a whole. His holistic approach is very welcoming and enlightening. This book addresses not only the emotional eating, but also how to manage stress at work, better sleeping, importance of physical activity, and recipes on healthy nutritious meal.

For Dieters:

Intuitive Eating: A Revolutionary Program that Works by Evelyn Tribole MS. RD. & Elyse Resch MS. RD. FADA.

This book is the classic among intuitive eating and mindful eating literatures. And it's written by Registered Dietitians! Evelyn and Elyse will guide you from the beginning if you're new to intuitive/mindful eating. Very important step in starting to eat mindfully is knowing where you are right now. If you've tried so many diets and hasn't gotten the desired result, this book will clarify your brain fog and clear your confusion from trying so many diets!

What I love about all these books are that they are all welcoming of all.

I will be sharing tips and advice to how to get started with Mindful Eating. Also, I am in process of building a Free 7 Day Mindful Eating Challenge to get you started with mindful eating! Please subscribe to my ZEN Newsletter to get the updates.
